MASON, Ohio - The UConn baseball team returns to the BIG EAST Championship as the top seed on Thursday, May 27 against Xavier at 6:30 p.m. at Prasco Park.
The Huskies went 13-4 in the conference to claim the BIG EAST regular season crown but will take on the Musketeers to open the Championship.
UConn split with the Musketeers at Hayden Field in late April. The Huskies came back in game three from an seven-run deficit with a nine-run eighth inning and ended up winning in 12 innings, 15-13, in a game that took two days to complete.Â
Xavier came back in the final game of the series with a walk off three-run homer to split the four-game series.
Xavier will send BIG EAST First Team performer Nick Zwack, who threw a complete game shutout against the Huskies in a seven-inning series opener back on April 25.
BIG EAST Second Team honoree Austin Peterson will take the mound for the Huskies, who enter the tournament with a gaudy RPI at 20 in the country.
UConn had eight players named to the BIG EAST All-Conference team including Kyler Fedko taking home BIG EAST Player of the Year honors.
The Huskies enter the tournament at 30-16 and have won 25 of their last 30 contests.
