STORRS, Conn. - UConn women's hockey head coach Chris MacKenzie has announced the hiring of Elizabeth Wulf as an assistant coach on the staff.Â
"We are excited to welcome Wulfie to our program," said head coach Chris MacKenzie. "We feel she's a great fit for our program. Everyone she has worked with respects her energy and enthusiasm for the student athletes she works with."Â
Wulf comes to the Huskies after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Wesleyan University. She helped guide the team to the NESCAC Tournament in her first season, while also coaching the team's first All-American, goaltender Allegra Grant
"Coach Wulf did a fantastic job in her 3 years at Wesleyan," said Wesleyan head coach Jodi McKenna. "Her ability to connect to the players and their families is second to none. She does a great job in all aspect of the profession, with the main goal to be the best she can be for those under her charge. It is an understatement to say Coach Wulf will be missed. But I am also so excited for her to take this next step. I believe she will have an equally large impact with the Huskies and she will learn so much from the UConn Athletics environment."Â
Wulf graduated from Middlebury College in 2018 after playing four seasons with the women's hockey team. She helped lead her team to three-consecutive NESCAC titles in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Her team also qualified for the NCAA Quarterfinals all four years, including a trip to the Final Four in 2016.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to be joining the UConn Women's Hockey family," said Wulf. "I want to thank the University of Connecticut, David Benedict, and Chris Mackenzie for giving me this incredible opportunity. I know I'm joining an amazing staff and program, so I'm really looking forward to working alongside Mac, Casey Handrahan, and the rest of UConn hockey staff. I can already tell this is a special place with great people, so I'm eager to get to know each of our players and meet others members of the UConn community. UConn Athletics has a rich tradition of success, and it's a really exciting time to be a part of its women's hockey program, so I can't wait to get started!"Â
A forward, Wulf played in every game during her four years at Middlebury, scoring 27 goals and accumulating 37 assists for a total of 64 points in 114 games.Â
Wulf was a three-time member of the NESCAC All-Academic team and was named an ACHA All-American Scholar her junior and senior years
Prior to Middlebury, the Larchmont, N.Y. native went to The Hotchkiss School, where she played ice hockey, soccer, and lacrosse and was captain of the ice hockey and soccer teams her senior year. She also played club hockey for the Mid-Fairfield CT Stars.
