Volleyball Sweeps New Hampshire, Dropped by Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – In the final day of the Dartmouth Invitational, the UConn volleyball team split its matches, sweeping New Hampshire before falling to Dartmouth in the finale.
UConn (5-4) earned its third 3-0 victory of the season to start the day against the Wildcats, though Dartmouth remained undefeated with a 3-1 decision over the Huskies.
Graduate student McKayla Wuensch and sophomore Taylor Pannell were named to the Dartmouth Invitational all-tournament team. Wuensch provided 103 assists on the weekend, while Pannell logged a .375 hitting percentage and 2.27 kills per set.
UConn 3, New Hampshire 0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-16)
Junior Jasmine Davis served up a pair of aces as the Huskies took the first four points. With the UConn holding an 8-6 edge, senior Kennadie Jake-Turner kicked off another 4-0 run, and Wuensch provided 17-of-19 assists in the set as UConn took the frame, 25-16.
New Hampshire flipped the script in the following stanza, taking the first four points until the Huskies battled back to knot the score at 12-all. Jake-Turner went for back-to-back kills and the Wildcats committed three straight attacking errors as a 5-0 UConn run contributed to a 25-20 victory. The Huskies never trailed in the third set, taking it 25-16, and finished the match with a .362 hitting percentage.
Dartmouth 3, UConn 1 (26-24, 25-20, 25-13, 27-25)
Darmouth and UConn went toe-to-toe to start before the Big Green started the pull away, 22-17. Senior Caylee Parker and Jake-Parker paced a 7-2 run to tie it up at 24-24, but Dartmouth took the next two points to take the set. Both teams struggled to find their attacking rhythm in the second frame, with another back-and-forth affair leading to a 20-20 game until the Big Green utilized a 5-0 run to seize a two-set grip.
UConn came alive as an 8-0 streak started by Pannell put the Huskies in command, 17-5. UConn continued to dominate with a .423 hitting percentage to take the set, 25-13, and force an extra frame. In the fourth set, Dartmouth went on a 7-0 run at the midway point to take the lead, 17-12, but the Huskies answered once again, rallying to tie it up at 22-22. After three ties down the stretch, the Big Green went ahead by two to remain the only undefeated Ivy League squad this season.
The Huskies will be back in action at Gampel Pavilion for the Dog Pound Challenge Sept. 17-18.
