STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team defeated Dartmouth 1-0 on Tuesday night at Morrone Stadium thanks to an early goal from sophomore Moussa Wade. The Huskies improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Huskies got off to a fast start, scoring just five minutes into the game. Sophomore Jayden Reid collected the ball at the half and found Moussa Wade on the left side of the field. Wade drove at the defense, cut the ball onto his right foot, and slotted home a classy finish into the bottom right corner to put UConn up 1-0.
Freshman Scott Testori had a great chance to double the UConn lead in the 17th minute, but his header went wide of the post. The Huskies continued to dominate possession in the opening 20 minutes, generating a few scoring chances.
UConn had another great chance to double the lead in the 42nd minute, as senior Felix Metzler and freshman Mateo Leveque had a two-on-one going forward. Metzler's feed found Leveque, but his shot was cleared off the goal line by the Dartmouth defense. The Huskies would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half began with some chippy play, as the Big Green and Huskies exchanged fouls early on. UConn would get a direct free kick in the 54th minute as Leveque whipped in a cross from the left side of the field that just missed the head of freshman Bjorn Nikolajewski. Graduate student Jahmali Waite had his first real test of the game in the 69th minute, diving across to make a great save to keep UConn ahead. That would be the last real chance for either team as UConn went on to win the game 1-0.
Jahmali Waite made one save to earn his fourth clean sheet of the season.
