UConn returns home to the XL Center and to Hockey East play hosting Boston University Friday night. The Huskies open a four-game homestand in Hartford and play five of their next seven on their home ice.
The Huskies and Terriers meet for the third time this season after splitting a two-game home-and-home back in October. UConn lost 2-1 at home against BU but bounced back for a 5-1 win on night two up in Boston at Agganis Arena.
Both UConn and BU received votes in this week's DCU/USCHO Top-20 National Poll. BU holds a 11-7-2 edge in the all-time series. The Huskies are 4-6-0 against BU at home in the XL Center
The Huskies and Terriers enter Friday night's match-up tied for sixth in the Hockey East standings each with 17 points in the standings. BU comes in off a weekend non-conference sweep at home over Arizona State last week. The Terriers have won three-straight and are 5-0-1 since December 1st.
UConn got tripped up on Tuesday night at AIC, falling to the Yellow Jackets 3-1. AIC never trailed, leading 1-0 after the first and scoring twice in the third to fend off the Huskies. UConn's Jachym Kondelik scored the lone Husky goal, his third-straight game with a goal.Â
UConn freshman goaltender Logan Terness got his first start making his collegiate debut on Tuesday night. Terness made 28 saves in taking the loss.Â
The Huskies got their sixth Hockey East win last Saturday, a 5-4 win at No. 18 Boston College. The Huskies battled back from down 2-0 to win after a thrilling back-and-forth third period with grad student Kevin O'Neil scoring the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left in regulation.
Five different Huskies scored in the BC win with O'Neil, senior Jachym Kondelik and sophomore Artem Shlaine finding the back of the net in their second-straight games. Sophomore Hudson Schandor and senior Carter Turnbull also scored in the win.Â
Senior Jachym Kondelik is tied for 14th in Hockey East in scoring with 16 points. Kondelik has six goals, tied for 19th in the league, and 10 assists, tied for 13th.Â
Kondelik is the Huskies leading active career point leader at 87 points (22g/65a). He has moved up to 11th on the Huskies Division I career points list and is two points away from entering the top-10. His 65 career assists is tied for fourth on the Division I all-time list, six away from tying the school record (71 - Sean Ambrosie 2009-13).
Sophomore Ryan Tverberg is the Huskies leading scorer this season, scoring nine goals with eight assists through 17 games. He is a +8 on the season with five multi-point games and had a five-game goal scoring streak as well. He is tied for 11th in Hockey East in scoring, averaging 1.06 points per game. His nine goals is tied for seventh. In 10 Hockey East games, Tverberg has posted a team-best 12 points on seven goals and five assists.
UConn grad student goaltender Darion Hanson, who transferred in this season from Union, and has started 16 of the 17 games. On the season, he owns a 2.62 goals against average and a .913 save percentage, sixth among league leaders in both categories. He has played the fifth most minutes in Hockey East and has 438 saves on the season, fifth best.
Senior Marc Gatcomb and junior Vladislav Firstov all have five goals on the season, tied for 28th among league leaders. Gatcomb's 13 points sets a new season-high mark.

October 8, 2021 @ XL Center - L, 2-1
- Boston University scored twice late in the third period to come away with a 2-1 win over the Huskies at the XL Center in the Hockey East opener for both clubs.
- UConn carried a 1-0 lead into the final period but failed to capitalize on a pair of power play chances, including a 5-on-3, to extend their lead as the Terriers would come up with a rally late.Â
- UConn grad student Darion Hanson stopped 43 shots in goal for the Huskies. Junior Vladislav Firstov gave UConn a 1-0 lead just 5:04 into the first period. From there Hanson dug in and made 19 saves in the first and 11 in the second to keep BU at bay heading to the third.
- The Terriers found the equalizer at 14:20 as Sam Stevens was sitting right on the left post to poke one home. BU capitalized on a power play chance with just over five minutes to go as Robert Mastrosimone buried the game winner in the slot area off a rebound and through traffic. BU netminder Drew Commesso made 33 saves to earn the win.
October 9, 2021 @ Agganis Arena - W, 5-1
- The Huskies picked-up their first Hockey East points on the season thanks to a 6-1 win on the road at No. 10 Boston University to split the weekend series.
- UConn sophomore Ryan Tverberg scored a career-high two goals to pace the Huskies on offense. Seniors Jonny Evans and Marc Gatcomb each scored and added an assist.
- After a 1-1 first period, the Huskies scored just 47 seconds into the second period on Evans' first goal of the season and never looked back. Grad student Darion Hanson made 29 stops and kept the Terriers off the board in the second and third to preserve the win.
- Junior Carter Berger scored his first goal on the season while freshman Sasha Teleguine had an assist for his first collegiate point. Sophomore Hudson Schandor had a pair of assists.
- BU got their lone goal from Matt Brown and goaltender Drew Commesso made 25 saves in taking the loss.
