Parker Leads Huskies Past Villanova

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fought from behind in set four to take home the victory Thursday afternoon. Senior Caylee Parker finished with 16 total kills to help take home the win.
UConn started the game firing on all cylinders and never looked back. The Huskies jumped out to a 10-6 lead early in set one. The Huskies senior group led the way as they would capitalize off Villanova mistakes and efficiently score to increase their lead. UConn would eventually jump out to a 20-14 lead forcing a Villanova timeout. Following the timeout, the Huskies would not let up as they would eventually take set one 25-17. Senior Caylee Parker would lead the way for the Huskies finishing set one with six kills and a .750 hitting percentage.
UConn would use the momentum gained from set one to continue battling and overpower the Wildcats. Back-to-Back kills by Kennadie Jake-Turner started the scoring for UConn and from there they would not let up. Villanova would not go down without a fight as they would fight back to tie the game at seven early in set two. From there a 4-0 run by UConn would force Villanova to take a timeout. Following the timeout, the Huskies would continue to dominate the Wildcats taking set two by a final of 25-16. The second set was an all-around team effort from the Huskies with six different athletes registering a kill including Taylor Pannell and Kennadie Jake-Turner finishing the set with four kills apiece.
Villanova would not go away without a fight as they would battle to take set three from the Huskies avoiding the sweep. Parker would finish set three once again with six kills. Senior Madi Whitmire would be a steady presence as she would finish set three with 13 assists.
Heading in to set four Villanova would jump out to an early 8-6 lead forcing UConn to call a timeout. The Wildcats would not let up as they would increase their lead to seven late in the fourth set. UConn would take the timeout looking to regroup. Mia Ruffalo and Emma Werkmeister would be subbed in and would provide an immediate spark to start the comeback. UConn would storm all the way back from seven points down to win set four 25-22 and take home the victory.
Caylee Parker would finish with 16 kills with a .517 hitting percentage. In addition, Madi Whitmire would finish with 42 total assists.

The Huskies will remain at home as they will welcome Georgetown University to Storrs Saturday Oct. 15. The game is set to begin at 3pm and can be streamed live on FloSports.
