UConn Sweeps Georgetown, 3-0

STORRS, Conn. – Senior Jasmine Davis had 14 kills on .565 hitting to lead the UConn volleyball team (9-10, 3-5 BIG EAST) beat Georgetown (4-15, 2-6) in three sets (25-15, 25-9, 25-12) Saturday afternoon in Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies hit .414 in the match while holding the Hoyas to -.011. UConn had 44 kills to Georgetown's 20.
Senior Caylee Parker knocked down nine kills while hitting .450. Junior Taylor Pannell had eight kills and hit .312. Senior Karly Berkland led the match with 10 digs.
Pannell and senior Allie Garland led the match with four block assists each.
The teams stayed close to each other to start the match, but back-to-back kills from Davis put the Huskies ahead, 18-14. UConn finished the set on a 6-0 run as the Huskies took advantage of Georgetown errors and got kills from Davis and Parker. Davis had nine kills in the first set and hit .818.
The Huskies dominated in the second set, using a 16-1 run to close the set. Pannell had a kill and a block and Madi Whitmire served an ace as UConn forced a Georgetown timeout at 15-8. Davis, Garland and Pannell had kills and the Huskies forced Hoya errors to get a 12-0 run. Davis served an ace to put UConn at set point and a Georgetown attack error won the set, 25-9.
UConn continued its run in the third as the team hit .609. The Huskies shot out to a 5-0 lead and pushed it to 8-1. UConn went ahead by nine at 15-6 with a block from Garland and Pannell. Parker hit a kill to put the Huskies up 10 at 19-9. Freshman Jess Perry had two late kills and a block and Pannell hit the match-winning kill at 25-12.
The Huskies have won their last three BIG EAST matches.
UConn is back in action against Providence on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion.
