Huskies Drop Regular Season Finale in Five Sets Against Butler

Storrs, Conn. - The women's volleyball team dropped the regular season finale against Butler in five sets Sunday afternoon. UConn ended the season 16-13 overall and 10-8 in Big East play. Even with the loss, the Huskies have qualified for the Big East tournament as the fifth seed.Â
Given the circumstances, UConn stayed in stride with Butler the entire way. Caylee Parker finished the last regular season game in style as she posted 22 kills, 23 digs, and 24 points. Meanwhile, Jasmine Davis was right behind as she put up 18 kills, 10 digs, and 20 points. Davis and Parker would start it off strong for the Huskies in the first set at 7-5. Then, a string of plays would help the Huskies stay up at 22-21. Madi Whitmire and Taylor Pannell would work together to close out the first set 25-22.Â
Butler came back in the second set ready to attack. UConn would take a timeout at 15-11 and Butler would keep the lead the rest of the way. The Huskies would take a second timeout trailing the Bulldogs by seven at 20-13. UConn would begin to show some fight slowly working its way back into the set after a 3-0 scoring run forcing Butler to take a timeout. However, Butler would settle down and take the second set 25-19.Â
UConn would be ready to go in the third set. Allie Garland and Kennadie Jake-Turner would help the Huskies take an early 5-2 lead with a crucial block. Then, UConn would get things working right as it would go on a 6-0 scoring run at 15-8. Butler was forced to take a timeout at 22-13 UConn and the Huskies never looked back as they took the third set 25-15.Â
Once the fourth set took place, Butler would figure things out to roll on to take the next two sets. After the timeout in the fourth set at 20-16, Butler would finish it off at 25-19. Then, in the winner take all fifth set, Butler would run into trouble as it would take a timeout trailing by three at 12-9. However, the Bulldogs would get out of trouble and come away victorious with a 24-22 fifth set score.Â

The Huskies will look to compete in the Big East conference tournament starting on Nov. 23. No. 5 seed UConn takes on No. 4 seed St. John's at 2 PM in Omaha, NE. The game can be seen on Flo Sports.Â
