No. 5 Seed UConn Set for the Big East Tournament

Storrs, Conn. - The women's volleyball team is set to compete in the Big East tournament in Omaha, NE facing St. John's in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov 23 at 2 p.m. EST.Â
The No. 5 seed UConn and the No. 4 seed St. John's will face each other for the second time this season. UConn dropped the first meeting in four sets back on Sept. 24. Â
Heading into the postseason tournament; UConn, Butler, and St. John's have 10-8 conference records. In the multi-team tiebreaker, St. John's was determined the four seed because of its winning percentage within the mini conference. UConn then edged out Butler for the fifth seed due to the head-to-head set record with an overall set record of 5-2.Â
If either UConn or St. John's advance, they will face the No. 1 seed Marquette in the semifinals. Marquette finished the season with a 17-1 conference record, beating out Creighton for the No. 1 seed spot due to the head-to-head set record.Â
Leading the way for the Huskies all season has been the play of Caylee Parker. The senior has record number kills and digs in the regular season with 343 kills and 276 digs. On top of that, Parker also has 401 total points. In addition, Madi Whitmire has highlighted the season with getting her teammates involved as she has an efficient 1,046 assist total. On the defensive side, Kennadie Jake-Turner has been active at the net with 99 blocks. The Huskies have relied on all aspects of the game from top to bottom in the regular season and now they are hoping to make their presence known in the post season.Â
