STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women's hockey team welcomes Providence College Friday February 11 for their annual Skating Strides game and will travel to Providence Saturday February 12. UConn women's hockey will be pairing with the Be A Wonder foundation for this year's game. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00p.m. at Freitas Ice Forum.
The Be A Wonder foundation was started by the DiStefano family after two of their younger sons were diagnosed with rare diseases. The DiStefanos did not want others who may be navigating and struggling with rare diseases to go through the process alone. The name "Be A Wonder" is a play on the name of the book/movie "Wonder". The word wonder is meant to encourage the idea that it is okay to be unique and to be rare. Their mission is to support patients and families affected by rare diseases by providing resources to promote advocacy, research, education, and direct assistance for rare disease challenges.
UConn enters Friday's matchup posting an 21-6-3 overall record and a 15-5-3 record in Hockey East Action. The Huskies are coming off a 1-0-1 week which featured a shootout loss to Boston University and a 5-0 win over the University of New Hampshire. Senior Danielle Fox netted her first career hat trick over the weekend, graduate student Morgan Wabick earned her 100th career point, and lastly graduate student Natalie Snodgrass became the program record holder for career goals with 70.
Providence enters this home and home series with the Huskies posting an 12-12-5 overall record and an 9-11-2 record in Hockey East Action. The friars last time out resulted in two overtime victories over Holy Cross. Leading the way for providence is graduate student Haley Lunny with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.
