HookC Resumes Oldest Rivalry Against Rhode Island

STORRS, Conn. - UConn and URIÂ have played baseball against each other since 1896 and will resume their rivalry this weekend with a three-game series. The Huskies will host the Rams on Friday (3:05 p.m.) and Sunday (1:05 p.m.) at Elliot Ballpark and head to Bill Beck Field on Saturday (1 p.m.). All three games will be on MIXLR while the Friday and Sunday contests will be live on FloSports.Â
The No. 25 UConn baseball team enters the series 15-4, the best 19-game start to begin a season since 1971 (17-2).Â
All-time the Huskies lead the series against the Rams 120-67-5. UConn won three of the four meetings against URI in 2021. However, the Rams are the only team to beat the Huskies at Elliot Ballpark. The Huskies are 18-1 all-time at their new digs at have won 15-straight at The Doug.
UConn ace Austin Peterson will get the ball on Friday sporting a 3-0 record and is eighth in the country with his 49 strikeouts. The Chesterton, Ind. native was one of 30 student-athletes named to the Senior CLASS Award Watch List.Â
Pat Gallagher leads the Huskies with four victories and will pitch on Saturday while Enzo Stefanoni will pitch on Sunday. The Harvard grad transfer ranks third in the nation with a 32:1 strikeoui-to-walk ratio.
Erik Stock leads the Huskies with a .410 AVG, 32 hits and eight doubles. The Virginia Beach, Va. native is 14th in the nation with 1.78 hits per game.
Casey Dana has homered in three of his last four games and leads the Huskies with five long balls and 22 RBIs.
