Softball completes series sweep of Seton Hall

South Orange, NJ – UConn beats Seton Hall in the series finale 14-5 earning their fourth sweep of the season. Now move to 18-3 in BIG EAST play.
Elise Sokolsky started in the circle for the Huskies. She went four innings striking out seven.
UConn got on the board early scoring three runs in the first inning. Reese Guevarra and Lexi Hastings came around to score on an error by the Pirates. Lauren Benson hit a sac fly to score Jana Sanden to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead.
The Huskies added to the lead in the second inning. Guevarra singled to score Briana Marcelino making it 4-0.
The Pirates got two runs back in the bottom half of the second inning. The Huskies would respond right back in the third inning with one swing of the bat. Marcelino hit a grand slam, her ninth homer of the season to make it 8-2. That is her second grand slam of the year and her third straight game with a home run.
Seton Hall scored two runs in the fourth to trim the Huskies lead to 8-4.
Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Sokolsky in the fifth inning. She pitched one inning for the Huskies striking out two.
The Pirates went on to score another run in the fifth, but UConn responded once again in a big way putting up a crooked number in the sixth inning scoring six runs. The Huskies scored four runs off Pirates errors and a wild pitch. Sami Barnett delivered the big blow with a two run shot to right center giving the Huskies a 14-5 lead.
Marybeth Olson came on in the sixth to close out the win. She pitched an inning and struck out two.
Head Coach Laura Valentino had this to say about her team's performance on the weekend, "I'm proud of the team for sticking to the process this weekend. Staying selfless and putting the team first has been a continued theme and contributing factor to our success during conference play. Everyone is contributing to the great things that are happening for the program. I'm looking forward to seeing the team compete in the next three games in preparation for a strong finish before Chicago."
UConn will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Boston College for a midweek out of conference matchup.
