No. 14 Huskies Fall at Georgetown, 22-12

WASHINGTON – Visiting Georgetown for the final game of the regular season, the No. 14 UConn women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-12 decision Friday night at Cooper Field.
Senior Sydney Watson led the Huskies with four goals and won five draw controls. Junior Kate Shaffer and senior Lia LaPrise added two goals and one assist apiece.
Georgetown held a 23-14 advantage on the draw and limited the Huskies to convert on 13-of-21 clear attempts.
The Hoyas rode the early momentum of their Senior Night, starting the game with a 3-0 run before Watson got the Huskies on the board. Down 5-1, LaPrise, senior Grace Coon and junior Kate Shaffer sparked a 3-0 run to make it a one-goal game. The duo of Lia Prise and Palmucci connected to close the quarter as the Huskies trailed, 7-5.
Watson drove through the crease to make it a one-goal game once again to start the ensuing frame, but the Hoyas continued to dominate the draw as it pulled ahead 11-6. Senior Lia LaPrise got UConn back on track before Watson five-holed the Hoyas' keeper, though the Huskies found themselves down 12-8 at the break.
Georgetown continued to control the momentum, using a 5-0 run to extend its command to 17-9 midway through the third. Shaffer and junior Morgan Carter went for back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to six heading into the final quarter.
However, the Hoyas reeled off another 5-0 spurt in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
UConn will be the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Championship, which will take place in Denver, and will await the result of the Marquette vs. Denver game tomorrow to find out its semifinal opponent. The Huskies will open up its postseason on Thursday, May 5 at 3 p.m. EST. in the No. 1 vs. No. 4 semifinal contest.
