No. 18 UConn, No. 12 Denver to Clash in BIG EAST Championship Semifinals

STORRS, Conn. -Â Ready to open up its postseason run, the No. 18 UConn women's lacrosse team will matchup with No. 12 Denver in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals on Thursday, May 5. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
UConn will make its second straight BIG EAST Championship appearance and will play in the conference tournament for the sixth time. The Huskies made its their second championship game appearance last season, where it fell to Denver 13-7. The Huskies are 2-5 all-time in postseason BIG EAST games, with both of its wins coming against Georgetown.
Seven student-athletes were named to the All-BIG EAST Teams, highlighted by senior Sydney Watson repeating as the unanimous Midfielder of the Year, and senior Landyn White being named the Goalkeeper of the Year. Senior Lia LaPrise and junior Ariana Kline earned their second straight All-BIG EAST First Team nods, while senior Grace Coon and juniors Madelyn George and Kate Shaffer earned spots on the Second Team.
UConn could not slow Georgetown down as it fell, 22-12, in its regular season finale and finished as the No. 4 seed in the tournament seeding. Denver, the No. 1 seed and host school, went a perfect 5-0 in conference games and won its third straight regular season BIG EAST title.
SCOUTING DENVER
Sam Thacker, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and a Tewaarataon Award nominee, leads a Pioneer backline that has caused an NCAA-best 229 caused turnovers. Lauren Black earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors after leading all rookies in the conference in goals (44), assists (15), and points (59). Bea Behrins is the top threat on the attack, pacing the Pioneers in goals (56), assists (20) and points (76).
THE SERIES
Denver has won all seven matchups in the series, though each of the last two matchups have been decided in overtime.
