Softball shuts out Butler 3-0 to win the series

Indianapolis, IN – UConn takes down Butler in the series finale to win their fourth straight series.
Elise Sokolsky continued her hot streak in the series finale for the Huskies. She went the distance and was virtually unhittable. She pitched the complete game shutout, only giving up two hits and striking out nine. On the weekend, Sokolsky finished with a stat line of 15.1 innings pitched, 0 runs given up, 24 strikeouts, and a 0.00 era.
The game was a pitcher's duel through three innings with both pitchers on their A game. The Huskies would strike first on a double by Jana Sanden to score Reese Guevarra in the fourth. This gave UConn a 1-0 lead. Sami Barnett hit a solo homer in the fifth, her fourth on the year to extend the Huskies lead to 2-0.
Erika Coreth added an insurance run in the seventh. She singled to score Barnett making it 3-0 Huskies.
UConn now improves to 20-13 on the year and 10-2 in the BIG EAST. They currently hold the top spot in the conference standings.
The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to UMASS for a midweek matchup.
