No. 13 HookC Drops Series Opener to Xavier, 7-2

STORRS, Conn. - For the first time this season, the No. 13 UConn baseball team (40-10, 14-2 BIG EAST) dropped a series opener to Xavier (27-23, 10-6 BIG EAST), 7-2, on Friday night at Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine on-base on Friday. Their first hit with a runner in scoring position came in the ninth inning on an RBI double for David Smith. Smith was the only Husky to record a multi-hit effort.
Austin Peterson took his first loss of the year (9-1) after going seven innings and allowing three earned runs with nine strikeouts.
Ben Huber his his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot, to get the Huskies on the board in the fourth.
With the loss, the Huskies have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.
UConn looks to even up the series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. with Pat Gallagher on the mound for the Huskies.
