STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team begins its 2022 campaign with a two-game road trip to New York. The Huskies open the season on Thursday, August 18 at 6 p.m. at Army in West Point and then finish out the weekend on Sunday, August 21 at Syracuse.Â
It will be the first trip to Army since 1982 when the Huskies won 11-0 at West Point. UConn is 2-0 all-time against Army with the last match coming in 2015 in Storrs.Â
Sunday's match will mark the 25th meeting between the Huskies and Orange with UConn leading the series 20-2-2. Last year, the Huskies won 3-0 against Syracuse at Morrone Stadium with Cara Jordan, Duda Santin and Lucy Cappadona scoring goals and Jaydah Bedoya notching a pair of assists.Â
Bedoya picked up preseason All-Conference accolades a few weeks ago after a stellar 2021 season. Bedoya was a First Team All-BIG EAST performer , scoring six goals and chipping in four assists on the season. Her six goals and 16 points led the team and she earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team.Â
The Huskies have been selected sixth after landing in sixth place last season and earning a bid to the BIG EAST Championship.Â
UConn brings back 12 of its 13 student-athletes that contributed a point last season for the Huskies including the top five point producers on the team.Â
The Huskies also bring back both their goalkeepers that played last season, Kaitlyn Mahoney (17 starts) and MaryKate Ward (1 start).Â
