MSOC Drops Season Opener to Charlotte 1-3

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team fell to Charlotte in the home opener Thursday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies start the season 0-1 for the first time since 2017.
Charlotte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. The Huskies battled back in the first half creating many chances in the final third. Maxwel De-Bodene rattled the cross bar in the 13th minute. UConn's bench came in key applying pressure on the Charlotte defense.
Substitute forward, Scott Testori scored the equalizer in the 32nd minute, the first goal of the season for the Huskies and the second goal of his career. Mateo Leveque orchestrated the goal with a cross across the box. The ball was redirected across the face of the goal by Bjorn Nikolajewski for Testori to finish the goal. The score remained tied into the halftime break.
The second half had a frantic start with up and down action for both teams. Testori once again had an opportunity in front of net in the 47th minute, but his shot was saved. UConn continued to apply pressure testing the Charlotte goalkeeper. Charlotte took the lead in the 52nd minute. They would quickly add another goal three minutes later in the 55th minute giving them a two goal edge.
The Huskies continued to apply pressure to Charlotte creating chances in the final third but could not find the back of the net.
UConn will be back in action this Sunday at Morrone Stadium where they will play the Holy Cross Crusaders. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
