Huskies Open Season At Penn State Classic

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's volleyball kicks off their 2022 season tomorrow August 26 as they travel to Penn State for the Penn State Classic.
Head coach Ellen Herman-Kimball enters her fourth season at the helm and is looking to build off an impressive and historic third season. In the 2021 season, the Huskies tallied 13 BIG EAST regular season wins, their most conference wins ever in a single season. In addition, UConn reached the 20-win mark for the first-time last season since the 2008 campaign.
The Huskies enter the 2022 season with a veteran roster which includes reigning All-Big East Team members Caylee Parker and Kennadie Jake-Turner. Parker returns to the Huskies as a unanimous selection to the 2022 preseason All-Big East team. In the 2021 season, Parker ranked fourth among league leaders in kills per set and posted double-digit kills 22 times. Jake-Turner returns after having led the Huskies in blocks per set, while also posting double digit kills 15 times.
UConn will play Penn State Friday August 26 at 7:30pm then face Duquesne Saturday August 27 at 3:30pm for their last matchup of the invitational. Each game will be streamed on the B1G + (subscription required) and live stats can be found here.
Scouting Penn State
UConn will kick off the Penn State Classic on Friday, August 26 as they will face Penn State at 7:30pm. The Nittany Lions were picked to finish 5th in the BIG TEN preseason poll and is led by new head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. Penn State is coming off an 21-11 overall record and 13-7 conference record.
UConn is 1-7 all time vs. Penn State having won the first meeting in 1977. The two teams last played in 1997.
Scouting Duquesne
In their second match of the tournament the Huskies will face off against Duquesne on Saturday. The Dukes are coming off a 13-6 season and are returning three of their top four-point getters from the 2021 season. They were picked to finish sixth in the A-10 coaches preseason poll.
The Dukes are returning Hailey Poling who led the conference with 1,114 assists and 9,86 assists per set in the 2021 season and Anita Parrott who blocked the fifth most attacks in the conference.
UConn currently leads the all-time series 2-1 with their last matchup being in 2013 where the Huskies won 3-0.
UP NEXT
Following their trip to Penn State, the Huskies will travel to West Point, New York for the Army Invitational Sept. 2-3. At the invitational, the Huskies will face St. Francis, Kansas University, and Army.
