No. 15 FH Opens 2022 With 2-0 Victory vs. UMass Lowell

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn field hockey team (1-0) captured a 2-0 match shortened victory against UMass Lowell in its season opener on Friday afternoon at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The match was suspended and eventually called due to inclement weather with 7:01 left to play in the fourth quarter.
The Huskies broke through with the first goal of the season with senior McKenna Sergi knocking home a rebound at 16:56 to put the Huskies in front. For the Greene, N.Y. native it is her first goal of the season and 11th of her career.
UConn kept applying pressure throughout the match with three penalty corners in the second quarter and four in the third.
Cheyenne Sprecher made three saves in the match and didn't have to make her first until midway through the third quarter.
Jasmijn Damman extended the UConn lead late in the third with her first career goal. The Netherlands product received a perfect pass off a penalty corner that she blasted into the back of the cage.
UConn continued to create chances with six penalty corners in the 7:59 played in the fourth quarter but were unable to capitalize and eventually the game was called due to the weather.
The Huskies finished the match with a 13-1 edge in penalty corners and 18-5 in shots.
Next up, the Huskies face Monmouth on Sunday, August 28 at 1 p.m. at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
