No. 15 FH Edges Past Monmouth, 2-1

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 15 UConn field hockey team (2-0) notched a 2-1 against Monmouth on Sunday afternoon at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Senior Claire Jandewerth broke a 1-1 tie with 3:10 remaining in regulation by converting her penalty stroke opportunity. It was the first goal of the season and 27th of the back's career.
The Huskies controlled large portions of the play on Sunday with a 23-3 discrepancy in shots and 12-2 edge in penalty corner chances.
UConn took the lead early with McKenna Sergi scoring just 1:10 into the match. It was the second goal of the season for the senior.
Sol Simone and Jandewerth led the way with six shots a piece. Frances Carstens came off the bench and recorded four shots.
The Huskies now head out on a five-game road swing and will not be back to Storrs until a September 23 match against Liberty.
