CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 15 UConn field hockey team (3-1) notched a top-10 victory on the road with a 2-0 shutout of No. 7 Harvard on Sunday afternoon.
After a tough loss at No. 8 Rutgers on Friday, the Huskies responded right away in the first quarter.
After earning a penalty corner, graduate transfer Frances Carstens scored her first goal at UConn by teeing up a one-timer and blasting home a pass from Claire Jandewerth at the 7:18 mark in the first quarter.
Just like last year's match that ended in a shootout, the game was evenly matched on Sunday. Both teams recorded 12 shots on the day and UConn had a slight 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
The game remained 1-0 until the fourth quarter, junior Morgan Kaufmann notched her second career goal to push the UConn lead to two.
The UConn defense was solid, only forcing goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher to make four saves while recording her 34th career shutout.
Next up, the Huskies head back on the road to the University of Delaware for a 5 p.m. match on Friday, September 9.
