#14 UConn Falls Short in OT

Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team fell short to Maine in overtime by a score of 5-4 Friday afternoon.
UConn now stands at 16-9-3 overall and 10-8-3 in Hockey East play. Maine took two out of the three in the season series.
Period 1: Both teams would take their share of chances on goal immediately as UConn would finish the first period with 10 shots on goal while Maine would take 11. UConn would get things started right out of the gate. Within a minute into the game, Jada Habsich would take a rip at goal and find the back of the net. Then, two minutes later, Maine would tie it up with a goal by Ava Stevenson. After, with eight minutes into the period, Maine's Anna Caumo would score and take the lead. UConn would tie it back up right before the end of the first period to make it 2-2 with a goal by Kyla Josifovic assisted by Camryn Wong and Riley Grimley.
Period 2: Maine would take the lead right back early in the second period with a goal by Ally Johnson. Then, more shots would be fired at net until Maine would extend the lead to two with a goal by Ida Kuoppala. After the second period, UConn would increase its shots on goal total to 19 while Maine would increase to 25. The Huskies would find their opening to cut the lead to one late in the second with a power play goal scored by Claire Peterson and assisted by Kate Thurman and Coryn Tormala. Two minutes later, the captain Coryn Tormala would even it up at 4-4 to end the second period.
Period 3: Aggressive offense and many more shots on goal would take hold in the third period and both goaltenders had to make effective saves to keep it close. UConn goaltender Megan Warrener finished with 25 saves and Maine goaltender Anna Lacrose finished with 27 saves. In total, there were 31 shots fired at goal from UConn and 30 shots on target for Maine. The third period would remain 4-4.
With two minutes into overtime, Maine's Grace Heiting would ring in the game-winning shot to close out an offensive battle.
