WSOC Hits Stretch Run In Regular Season

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (6-3-5, 3-1-3 BIG EAST) plays two key BIG EAST matches this week with a Thursday, October, 19 home matchup against Villanova at 7 p.m. and then turn around and play at Providence on Sunday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
The Huskies currently sit in fourth place in the BIG EAST standings with six teams advancing to the BIG EAST Championship. The top two teams earn a bye to the semifinals and the third and fourth seed earn home quarterfinal matchups.
UConn enters the week tied for 14th in the country with nine shutouts on the season and are fifth in D1 with a .429 goals against average.Â
Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney is eighth in the NCAA with a .433 goals against average and has notched eight shutouts on the year, ranking tied for 14th.Â
Villanova enters Thursday's match tied for last place in the league with five points. Jackie Richards is tied for fifth in the BIG EAST with six goals scored this season.
The Huskies trail Providence by one point in the BIG EAST standings entering the week with a big contest on Sunday. The Friars are third in the BIG EAST with 24 goals scored this season and Meg Hughes is tied for second in the conference with eight goals on the season.
