UMass Lowell Blanks Huskies At Home

Hartford, Conn. - Â The UConn men's hockey team fell in the second game of a two-game set against UMass Lowell, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the SL Center in Hartford Connecticut. The Huskies had an opportunity to tie the game late in the third period while on a 5 on 3 power play, but UMass Lowell shutout the Huskies and secured the conference win.
Despite outshoot the Riverhawks 46-24, the Huskies were unable to get just one past UMass Lowell goaltender Henry Welsch. UConn and UMass Lowell battled for three periods, going scoreless in two of the three periods.
The Huskies continue to struggle in the early season on the power play, finishing 0-3 on the afternoon including coming up empty on a 5 on 3 opportunity. UMass Lowell took the lead midway through the second period, when a clear attempt by the Huskies bounced off the referee right to a UMass Lowell player who fired it past senior goaltender Ethan Haider.
UConn had multiple opportunities in the third period to tie the game, but the Huskies were unable to find the back of the net. UConn had two shots ring off the post, while multiple other shots were cleared off the line or blocked by the UMass Lowell defense.
UConn senior goaltender Ethan Haider finished with 23 saves for the afternoon.
With the loss, UConn falls to 3-4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. UConn will be back on the road next weekend for a two-game series against Vermont. Game one will take place Friday, November 3. Both games can be streamed live on ESPN+.
