Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The UConn men's hockey team fell in overtime to the no.4 Boston College Eagles Friday night at Conte Forum. The Huskies scored three goals in the third period, but the Eagles scored the game winner with under one minute left in the overtime period.
Boston College opened the scoring Friday night with a power play goal. The Huskies found themselves a man down following a roughing penalty on freshman Joey Muldowney, and with the extra skater, Boston College was able to capitalize as Ryan Leonard was able to sneak the puck through traffic past senior goaltender Ethan Haider. Boston College followed up with a second goal two minutes later to give them the 2-0. The Huskies were able to cut the Eagles lead to one late in the period as Tristan Fraser fought through contact and scored five-hole on the Boston College goaltender. The Eagles, however, responded and entered the period break leading 3-1.
Boston College tied the game once again following a penalty on John Spetz. With the man advantage, the Eagles took control and with a little bit of puck luck, found the equalizer as the shot deflected off a UConn defenseman's skate for the goal. Neither team was able to net the game winner in regulation forcing a sudden death overtime period.
In the overtime period, both teams had multiple chances to win the game. UConn's Jake Percival hit the post before bouncing out, and Boston College had two shots ring off the post. In the end, Boston College sank the game winner with under a minute left in the overtime period.
