STORRS, Conn. – The UConn Women's Lacrosse team heads to the US Lacrosse Facility in Sparks, MD for their first road game of the season vs No. 12 James Madison University on Saturday, February 18th. The Huskies are the designated home team for the neutral site contest with opening draw at 12:00pm EST.
Both UConn and JMU are coming off wins earlier this week. UConn beat Fairfield University in an 18-17 overtime thriller, while JMU edged out Virginia Tech on the road, 8-6.
UConn senior, Kate Shaffer, had a standout game on attack against Fairfield on Wednesday afternoon. Shaffer scored a career-high seven goals, notched three assists, and had 10 points on the day. The Huskies offense was assisted by Grace Coon, who had five of her own goals, and Rayea Davis, who notched a hat trick and scored the winning goal in overtime in her first collegiate game at UConn.
The Huskies will be looking for revenge against the Dukes, the team that ended their NCAA Championship tournament run in 2022. UConn and JMU clashed twice last season, with both games ending in a win for the Dukes. The first match was the Huskies second of the 2022 season, which also took place at US Lacrosse Facility, with JMU as the designated home team. The Huskies were coming off a season-opening win against Fairfield in 2022, just as they are this time around in 2023.
Scouting JMU
The Dukes come into the game 1-1 after losing their first game of the season to #1 ranked University of North Carolina. Redshirt junior, Isabella Peterson, will be the one to watch out for on the field tomorrow. Peterson scored three goals against Virginia Tech, making it two games in a row where she scored a hat trick.
