Huskies Set for First Meeting with SJU

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn Women's Lacrosse team will play host to Saint Joseph's University on Saturday, February 25th for the first meeting of the teams in program history. Opening draw is set for 5:00 pm, formerly 1:00 pm, indoors at Shenkman on the UConn campus. There will be no spectators outside of season ticket holders or guests of student-athletes.
Both UConn and SJU are coming off losses from last weekend. UConn fell to JMU at their neutral site contest at the US Lacrosse Facility, 7-11, while SJU narrowly lost to Villanova, 13-14, on the road.
It was a week of career highs for the Huskies. Grad student goalkeeper, Landyn White, had a career high day against JMU, making 20 saves in one game and officially hitting 400 saves during her career at UConn. White was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week this week. Grad student, Lia LaPrise, set the new program record for career assists with 105. Senior, Kate Shaffer, had a standout game on attack against Fairfield, scoring her career high seven goals and notching 100 career points.
The Huskies will be looking for their second win of the season against the Hawks. Grad student and attacker, Grace Coon, had great performances during the first two games of the season. Coon notched five goals and one assist, with nine shots and one caused turnover. She was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week. On defense, Senior Rylee Brown had nine draw controls and four caused turnovers, while senior Ariana Kline had four draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Scouting SJU
The Hawks come into the game 0-3 after losing their first three games of the season on the road to No. 2 Maryland, Lehigh, and Villanova. Senior midfielder, Riley Evans, had a career high five goals against Villanova, while sophomore Maddie Yoder, had her fourth hat trick of her career. Junior goalkeeper, Jorden Concordia, had nine saves in the loss to Villanova, putting her at 24 total saves on the season.
