HookC Drops Series Opener at Hawaii, 8-4

MANOA, HI – The UConn baseball team (6-4) dropped its series opener at Hawaii, 8-4, on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
Graduate student Dominic Freeberger led the way for the Huskies with a 1-1 day at the plate that included three walks and a hit by pitch. The two-way player also made his UConn debut on the mound and fired a scoreless eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Ben Huber collected a multi-hit effort with a pair of doubles including an RBI two-bagger. Shortstop Bryan Padilla also registered a two-hit game.
Lefthander Garrett Coe tossed a season-high 3.2 innings out of the bullpen and gave up just one earned run.
Graduate student Luke Broadhurst smashed his third home run of the season in the fourth inning to make it a 3-2, Hawaii lead. That was the closest the Huskies would get as the Rainbow Warriors scored three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to fall behind 8-2.
The Huskies will look to bounce back with game two starting at 11:35 p.m. ET/ 6:35 p.m. HT.
