Huskies Set for Second-Straight Ivy Game

ITHACA, N.Y. – The UConn Women's Lacrosse team is set to travel to Ithaca, NY to play Cornell in their second-straight game vs an Ivy League opponent this season. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00pm at Schoellkopf Field on the Cornell campus.
UConn is coming off a win against then-No.15 nationally ranked, Yale University. The Huskies pulled off a thrilling ending to a hard-fought game, scoring a goal on a free position shot in the first period of overtime to end the match.
The UConn offense had another strong showing on Saturday as senior, Kate Shaffer, notched a hat trick, including the game-winning overtime free position goal. Shaffer is ranked #21 in the country for points per game and was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. Junior, Susan Lafountain and grad student, Grace Coon, had two goals each to push the Huskies towards the win.
Grad student goalkeeper, Landyn White, was named USA Lacrosse Magazine's Player of the Week. She had 14 saves in the overtime win against Yale on Saturday afternoon and continues to impress on the national level – she's currently ranked #4 in the country for save percentage, #4 in saves per game, and #11 for saves.
UConn's defense stepped up in a big way against Yale, controlling two-thirds of the draws, while forcing turnovers and shot clock violations.
This will be the second time the Huskies and Big Red meet. UConn beat Cornell in their first contest in 2022, 20-14, at home in Storrs, CT.
Scouting Cornell
The Big Red come into the game 5-2, having lost to Binghamton and then-No.17 Stanford. Abigail Carroll scored five goals for Cornell against Binghampton this past week. Annie Thomas won eight draws, while Carroll notched six draws. Katie Castiello posted four goals, with Amanda Cramer notching two. Goalkeeper, Ellie Horner, made four saves.
