HookC Readies For Three-Game Set at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UConn baseball team (3-3) returns to the field for a three-game road series at Florida Atlantic beginning on Friday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. Game two of the series will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday and the series finale wraps up on Sunday at 12 p.m. Games can be viewed on FAUSports.tv or listen on MIXLR with Chris Jones on the call.
The Huskies are coming off a 1-1 weekend at the Cal Baseball Classic that featured an all-time comeback against Cal Poly. UConn trailed 10-7 entering the ninth inning but rallied to score three runs in the ninth and one in the 10th inning to steal a victory against the Mustangs.
UConn played into the third inning on Sunday against California but the game eventually was canceled due to rain.Â
The Huskies are 2-4 all-time against FAU with the last series coming in 2015. The Huskies were swept including a pair of walk-off losses. Former UConn RHP Jordan Tabakman threw six shutout innings in the series finale of that series, the 2015 UConn graduate is now in his frist season as the FAU pitching coach.
The Owls are off to a hot start with a 7-1 record that features a series win vs. USF and a pair of marquee midweek victories against UCF and No. 22 Miami. All-American Nolan Schanuel leads the team with three home runs and a .419 batting average. He hit a pair of home runs on Tuesday to lead FAU past the No. 22 ranked Hurricanes.Â
Korey Morton leads the Huskies with a .333 AVG, eight hits and is tied for the team lead with two long balls. The junior outfielder ranks second with eight runs scored and eight runs batted in. Dominic Freeberger is hitting .304 AVG with a team-high nine RBIsÂ
RHP Ian Cooke makes his third start of the season on Friday night. The New Milford, Conn. native leads the team with 11.0 inning pitched and 17 punch outs.Â
