Four-Run Sixth Propels HookC to 6-4 Win At FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UConn baseball team (4-3) utilized a four-run sixth inning to capture the series opener at FAU, 6-4, on Friday night at FAU Baseball Stadium.
After the Owls tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the UConn bats responded with a four-run response. Luke Broadhurst led off the inning with a base hit and stole second after the Owls tried to pick him off.
After Broadhurst advanced to third on a David Smith fly out to right, Korey Morton brought him home on a grounder to short that couldn't be handled.
Dominic Freeberger and Ben Huber followed with back-to-back RBI doubles and Bryan Padilla capped the frame with a two-out RBI single.
RHP Ian Cooke earned the victory with 6.1 strong innings of work. The New Milford, Conn. native allowed just four hits, one earned run and struck out four.
Brady Afthim and Justin Willis closed the game out with each tossing a scoreless inning of work. Willis collected his 18th career save with his 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Huber led the way offensively with a three-hit night that featured a pair of doubles and scored three runs.Â
The Huskies look to claim the series on Saturday with a 4 p.m. start. Stephen Quigley will take the mound for the Huskies.
