Softball defeats Boston College in Midweek Matchup

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (15-8) beat the Boston College Eagles (15-11), 9-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Burrill Family Field.
Hope Jenkins started in the circle for the Huskies going three innings with a strikeout. Delaney Nagy came in relief for Jenkins in the fourth inning only pitching one inning. Payton Kinney closed out the game on the bump for the Huskies tossing three innings with three strikeouts.
The Huskies seized on their scoring opportunities as they loaded the bases in the second, fourth, and sixth innings only leaving three runners on base. UConn opened the scoring in the second inning scoring five runs. After Haley Coupal was hit by a pitch and Lexi Hastings worked a bases loaded walk, the Huskies found themselves up 2-0 and looking for more. Aziah James came up with the big hit, delivering her fifth double of the season, clearing the bases, and putting the Huskies up 5-0.
UConn extended their lead in the third inning off the bat of Savannah Ring. She hit a bloop single into right field, scoring Jana Sanden making it 6-0.
Boston College worked their way back into the game with a big inning in the fourth, scoring six runs, with four runs coming from the long ball. The Eagles finished with three home runs in the game.
The Huskies responded quickly in the bottom half of the fourth scoring two runs, and reclaiming the lead, 8-6. After the Huskies loaded the bases, Grace Jenkins worked a walk and Jana Sanden was hit by a pitch giving UConn the lead for good.
The Huskies will return to conference play on Friday in the series opener against the Georgetown Hoyas in Storrs.
