Softball set for series with St. John's

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn Softball team (22-10, 9-3 BIG EAST) continue their five game home stand this weekend as they welcome the St. John's Red Storm (14-17, 4-5 BIG EAST). Game one is set for Friday at 6:00pm, with game two on Saturday at 1:00pm. The series finale will be on Sunday at 11:00am. All games will be streamed on UConn+.
UConn is playing their best softball of the season, winners in eight of their last ten games. The Huskies offense has been firing on all cylinders in this ten game stretch outscoring their opponents 61-29. In the past two games alone, Aziah James and Grace Jenkins have combined for 11 runs batted in out of UConn's 18 runs scored. The Huskies have gotten contributions up and down the lineup as UConn ranks 22nd in the country with a .402 on base percentage as a team.
The UConn pitching staff has been sturdy, led by Payton Kinney and Hope Jenkins who have combined for 142 out of the Huskies 184 strikeouts this season. Kinney earned BIG EAST honor roll this week, as she tossed a two hit shutout of Villanova in six innings pitched on Sunday.
The Huskies rank in the top ten in stolen bases per game at 2.59, led by James (24) and Lexi Hastings (22). UConn has 83 stolen bases as a team this season, amassing 80+ stolen bases the past three seasons.
St. John's comes into the weekend losing three out of their last four games. The Red Storm are led by sophomore London Jarrard who leads the BIG EAST with sixteen extra base hits. UConn leads the all-time series 52-15.
