STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team beat the St. John's Red Storm, 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies have now won eight straight games, and swept their second straight BIG EAST series, moving to 12-3 in the conference and 25-10 overall.

Hope Jenkins was dominant in the circle for the Huskies tossing a complete game, only surrendering two hits, with a game high eight strikeouts. Jenkins moves to 11-2 in her freshman season.

UConn jumped out to an early three run lead in the first inning, knocking out the St. John's starter early, after the first four Husky batters reached base. Lexi Hastings extended her on base streak to 24 games as she worked a leadoff walk to start the rally. Grace Jenkins knocked in Hastings from second base, on a single to center field. Jana Sanden followed Jenkins with a double in the left center field gap scoring Aziah James. Hope Jenkins capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly, bringing home her twin sister Grace.

Jenkins only blemish of the day came in the second inning, giving up a solo home run making it 3-1. After the homer, Jenkins was untouchable, retiring 18 of the last 21 batters she faced.

Grace Jenkins added to the lead in the third inning driving in her second run of the game. She hit a rocket to the second baseman forcing her to make a great play on the ball. James capitalized on the difficult play scoring all the way from second base.

UConn is now 10-2 at home this season and have won their fifth straight conference series. The Huskies will travel to Boston College on Tuesday for their second matchup with the Eagles this season.
