Top Seeded HookC Rallies To Beat Georgetown, 5-4

MASON, Ohio - The No. 9 and top-seeded UConn baseball team (41-13) rallied with a pair of runs in the eighth to defeat Georgetown (29-26), 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the winner's bracket of the BIG EAST Championship at Prasco Park.Â
The Huskies secured its 11th win this season when trailing after the fifth as trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh and 4-3 going to the bottom half of the eighth.
In the seventh, Luke Broadhurst launched his 14th home run of the season to even the game at 3-3.Â
After Zaid Walker hit a solo shot in the 8th, the Huskies immediately responded. David Smith singled to start the inning and then utilized his speed to tie the game.Â
With Smith on the move, Freeberger checked his swing and perfectly placed a base hit where the second baseman would have been. As the ball trickled into right center field. Smith motored around the bases to score on the RBI single.
Freeberger moved up to second on the the throw to the plate and quickly moved to third on an infield single for Ben Huber to first base. Jake Studley followed with the second fortuitous check swing of the inning, the First Team All-BIG EAST outfielder checked his swing and pushed a ball just to the right of the mound that was fielded and no man's land and allowed Freeberger to score to take the lead, 5-4.Â
In the ninth, closer Justin Willis came out of the bullpen to get the final two outs of the ballgame. The right-hander secured his program record 26th save and became the first UConn pitcher in program history to record multiple double digit saves season with his 10th of the year.Â
Garrett Coe earned the start for the Huskies and was solid, tying his career-high with 5.1 innings of work. The left-hander held the Hoyas to just four hits and struck out four.Â
Zach Fogell earned his seventh win (7-0) with 3.0 strong innings out of the pen.Â
Paul Tammaro notched his third-straight multi-hit game that included his third home run of the year, a solo shot, in the fourth inning.Â
UConn moves into the winner's bracket to play the winner of the Xavier/Seton Hall game on Thursday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m.Â
