STORRS, Conn. – The No.24 UConn Women's Lacrosse team, No.3 in the BIG EAST, is set for a rematch in the semifinal conference tournament game with the No.19 Marquette Golden Eagles on Friday, May 5th as they host at home in Storrs, CT. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00pm EST.
The last time UConn and Marquette saw each other, Marquette had taken an early lead and a comeback attempt by the Huskies fell short. While UConn held the Golden Eagles scoreless for the last 23 minutes of the game, it wasn't enough to take the victory. The Huskies will be looking for revenge as they take on Marquette at home in the semifinal game tomorrow.
A slew of Huskies earned All-BIG EAST honors, as announced on Thursday, as the team heads into the post-season. Kate Shaffer was named Co-Attacker of the Year, while Landyn White was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight year. White, Shaffer, and Madelyn George were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Ariana Kline, Grace Coon, and Lia LaPrise were named to the Second Team.
The Huskies were in the BIG EAST tournament in 2022, where they fell to Denver in the semifinal game before their second-straight NCAA tournament bid. UConn has now clinched a spot in the BIG EAST tournament seven times in its program history.
Should they advance, UConn will take on the winner of the No.1 Denver and No.4 Villanova game on Sunday, May 7th at 12:00pm EST at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, CT.
Scouting No. 19 Marquette
The Golden Eagles are the No.2 team in the BIG EAST and No.19 in the country after suffering their first conference loss last weekend to the undeafeated Denver Pioneers. The loss snapped their 12-game win-streak. This was the best showing that Marquette had in regular season BIG EAST in their program history. The Golden Eagles will be looking to defeat UConn for the second time this season to advance to the championship game.
