Softball finishes regular season with win over Saint Peter's

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (33-13) closed out the regular season with a dominant win over Saint Peters, 7-0. Hope Jenkins and Meghan O'Neil combined for the 41st no hitter in program history.
Hope Jenkins picked up her 14th win in her freshman season, tossing six scoreless innings, with seven strikeouts. Jenkins was dominant in the circle working four 1-2-3 innings, keeping the Peacocks off the board all afternoon.
UConn jumped out in front in the first inning scoring two runs. Grace Jenkins doubled to left field, scoring Lexi Hastings from second base. Jana Sanden followed Jenkins with another double to right field, bringing home Jenkins, making it 2-0 Huskies.
The Huskies doubled their lead in the fourth inning. The pitcher, Hope Jenkins knocked in both runs with a single to left field, scoring Sanden and Rosie Garcia, making it 4-0 Huskies.
UConn tacked on another run in the fifth inning as Grace Jenkins knocked in her second run of the game with a double, scoring Hastings. This is Jenkins eleventh multi-RBI game this season.
The Huskies put the game out of reach for Saint Peter's in the sixth inning, scoring two more runs. Aziah James hit a single, scoring Giuliana Abruscato from second base. Sanden brought home James with a sacrifice fly.
Meghan O'Neil came in to close out the win for the Huskies in the seventh inning, only needing seven pitches to close out the game.
With results from around the conference today, UConn secured the BIG EAST regular season championship outright. The Huskies will be the number one seed going into the BIG EAST tournament next week. UConn will play on Thursday at noon against the winner of St. John's and Butler.
