WSOC Battles No. 11 Georgetown for First Place

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The UConn women's soccer team (5-2-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) battles for first place in the BIG EAST at No. 11 Georgetown (6-1-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) on Thursday, September 28 at 3 p.m. at Shaw Field. The game will be streamed on FloSports.
One week into BIG EAST Conference play the Huskies and Hoyas are the lone 2-0 teams in the league. Both teams secured victories against Creighton and St. John's last week.
Thursday's contest will be the 19th all-time meeting between the two programs with the Huskies leading the series, 12-6. It will be the third-straight meeting with the Hoyas ranked in the national polls (1-2).
The Huskies last ranked win came against Georgetown at Shaw Field with a 1-0 victory in 2021. Team captain Lucy Cappadona scored the lone goal in the 58th minute.Â
The UConn defense has been one of the top units in the country, ranking second in the BIG EAST Conference and 26th nationally with a 0.56 goals against average.Â
Offensively, the Huskies have created opportunities with 7.89 corner kicks per game which ranks seventh in all of the country. Chioma Okafor paces the BIG EAST Conference with 4.56 shots per game and leads UConn with four goals scored on the year.Â
The Hoyas have only had one setback this season with a loss to Princeton on September 14. Natalie Means and Allie Winstanley are tied for the team lead with three goals while Allie Augur ranks second in the BIG EAST with just two goals allowed and a 0.29 goals against average.
