No. 4 Huskies Visit Butler For Friday Night Showdown

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team (12-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) is back in action on Friday night when it visits Hinkle Fieldhouse for a showdown at Butler (10-4, 1-2 BIG EAST). The contest will air at 6:30 ET on FS1 with Connor Onion and LaPhonso Ellis on the call.
UConn has never lost in its all-time series with Butler, one that dates back to the 2011 National Championship game. The Huskies won that contest to claim their third national title and have won all six meetings since with the squads meeting as league-mates beginning in the 2020-21 season. UConn is 3-0 inside Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Huskies are coming off a dominant performance to open the New Year on Tuesday, running past DePaul by a score of 85-56 at Gampel Pavilion. Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) led four Huskies in double-figures with 20 points, while Alex Karaban (Southborough, Mass.) added 17 and a game-high seven rebounds. Also atop the scoresheet were Stephon Castle (Covington, Ga.) who scored 14 with four rebounds and seven assists and Hassan Diarra (Queens, N.Y.) who came off the bench to provide 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Spencer leads the Huskies in scoring this season with 15.2 points per game, followed closely by Tristen Newton (El Paso, Texas) at 15.0 per game. Newton leads Connecticut with 6.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, one of two players ranking among the top-10 in the BIG EAST in both categories. Karaban adds 14.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, The Huskies are among the the national leaders in scoring margin, assists per game, field goal percentage and assist/turnover ratio.
Friday's matchup pits the top two scoring offenses in the BIG EAST against each other, with each program averaging over 82 points per game. Pierre Brooks leads four Bulldogs averaging double-figures with 16.4 points per game, while Jahmyl Telfort adds 14.4 and DJ Davis chips in 13.6 per contest. Posh Alexander is the fourth BU player in double-figures with 10.7 points per game and adds a team-best 5.1 assists per game.
Following the contest Friday night, UConn is back on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 10 when it visits Xavier at the Cintas Center for an 8:30 p.m. match-up.
