STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's field hockey team continues to dominate, as they cruised to a 5-0 victory over Villanova Friday afternoon. Freshman Isabel Soeters scored her first career goal and notched a hat trick, while the Huskies improve to 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in BIG EAST action.

The first quarter began, and it was a defensive battle, with both teams preventing the other from jumping out to an early lead. The Huskies were forced to defend early, as Villanova received two penalty corners back-to-back however the Huskies defense was up for the challenge and kept the Wildcats scoreless. Late in the first period, the Huskies received their first penalty corner of the game, and on the ensuing corner, freshman Milou Huecker found fellow freshman Isabel Soeters who was able to push the ball past the goaltender for her first career goal, and the first goal of the match.

In the second quarter, the Huskies once again received a penalty corner. The Huskies ran the similar play and once again freshman Isabel Soeters was left alone in front for the easy goal to give UConn the 2-0 lead. With five minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Huskies were awarded yet another penalty corner and with Isabel Soeters on the field the freshman was able to score her third goal of the match, on the third penalty corner attempt to give UConn the 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half it was all Huskies as they added two more goals to extend their lead to five. Junior Julia Bressler scored off a redirection, while freshman Sophie Perschk collected the Villanova turnover and in one motion fired it past the goaltender. UConn's defense shined, as they prevented Villanova from cutting into their lead, and made sophomore goaltender Natalie McKenna's day easy as she finished the game without registering a save.

UP NEXT: The Huskies will hit the road as they travel to Albany to face off against UAlbany on Sunday Oct. 6. The match is set to begin at 1pm.
