MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team shutout Providence 7-0 Friday night at home at Magic Lincer Tennis Club.
The Huskies are 9-6 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST play. UConn started off strong in doubles play clinching the point at second and third doubles. Then, in singles play, UConn rattled off all six singles points.
"This was a nice win for the team today," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "Since we were away down south for our last two matches outdoors, we were focused on getting adjusted to the speed of the indoor courts. We had some good practices this week in preparation, and it translated nicely to the matches. The doubles on all 3 courts was solid, and we came through in all of the close games to get the doubles point. That momentum carried over into our singles, and we were focused and started well on all 6 courts. The result ended up being 7-0, but we played well in several close sets down the stretch to get the job done."
First year Caroline Hinshaw clinched the match for the Huskies extending her singles record to 9-6.
