Jake Percival Hat Trick Pushes Huskies Past #11 Northeastern

STORRS, Conn. — UConn men's hockey defeated no.11 Northeastern by a final of 4–2. Ethan Gardula scored the first goal for the Huskies followed by a jake Percival hat trick and 33 saves from Tyler Muszelik.
The first period began with UConn and Northeastern battling with their defenses stealing the show. Senior Tyler Muszelik stood firm in goal finishing with 17 total saves in the period. Northeastern's best chance of the period came late when a UConn cross check gave the Huskies the man advantage, but the UConn penalty kill stood strong and prevented a goal, as both teams entered the break scoreless.
In the second period, the two teams continued to battle looking to break the deadlock. With just under two minutes left in the second period, the Huskies broke through as Ethan Gardula tipped a shot from the point past Northeastern netminder Lawton Zacher for the Huskies first goal of the night. 11 seconds later UConn followed the goal up with another as Jake Percival beat his defender and was in front for the tip in to give UConn the 2-0 lead heading into the third period.
Northeastern's offense did not stay quiet for long as they scored and cut the lead to one just four minutes into the third period. Northeastern found the equalizer midway through the third period tying the game at two. The Huskies did not back down as the ensuing shift a shot from Tabor Heaslip was redirected in front by Jake Percival for his second goal of the night and the UConn 3-2 lead. With the 3-2 lead, the Huskies defense stood strong preventing Northeastern from once again finding the equalizer. Late in the period, Northeastern pulled their goalie in favor of an extra skater, but the Huskies defense shined as they blocked shots and eventually cleared the zone, allowing for Jake Percival to catch up to the puck and score his third of the night on the empty net goal, securing the 4-2 win.
UP NEXT: The Huskies will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow Saturday November 15 as they travel to Matthews Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
