Woodworth Lifts No. 8 Huskies to Nutmeg Classic Win Over No.9 Quinnipiac

STORRS, Conn. -- No.8 UConn women's hockey defeated No.9 Quinnipiac, 4-3 in the opening game of the 2025 Nutmeg Classic. With the victory, UConn moves to 11-3-1 on the season.
The first period was a defensive struggle, with Tia Chan and Felicia Frank making key saves for UConn and Quinnipiac, respectively. Emma Eryou and Maya Serdachny managed early shots for the Huskies, but Frank was steady in goal for Quinnipiac, recording nine first period saves. On the other end, Chan denied multiple attempts from Quinnipiac's offense, turning away 11 Bobcat shots to keep the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.
Kyla Josifovic opened the scoring early in the second period, netting her seventh goal of the season, converting on feeds from Brooke Campbell and Megan Woodworth. Quinnipiac equalized at 11:02, with Tessa Holk finding the back of the net. The Huskies regained the lead six minutes later after an impressive individual effort by Ashley Allard, sending UConn to a 2-1 lead at the end of two.
Zoe Uens brought the Bobcats even, scoring just over a minute into the third period to knot the score at 2-2. UConn responded quickly, thanks to Allard's second goal of the game to regain a 3-2 advantage. In an action-packed third period, Makayla Watson again brought Quinnipiac even at 3-3 with nine minutes to go. A tension-filled period continued until Woodworth found the net with three minutes remaining. Quinnipiac pressed hard in the final minutes, but UConn's defense held firm for a 4-3 victory to send the Huskies to the Nutmeg Classic championship game tomorrow night.
Allard found the net twice and recorded seven shots to lead UConn. Campbell recorded two assists and won 16 of 22 faceoffs. Woodworth contributed a goal and an assist, with her goal being the game-winner. Josifovic scored once and blocked three shots, adding to the defensive effort. Chan made 40 saves to secure the victory.
The Huskies will host the winner of Yale/Sacred Heart tomorrow night at 6:30 pm in the Nutmeg Classic championship game.
