STORRS, Conn. — UConn's Julia Pellerin scored the game-winner with 1:35 left to deliver the Huskies a 3-2 win over the Yale Bulldogs and the 2025 Nutmeg Classic championship on Saturday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs.
UConn's Kyla Josifovic was named the tournament MVP with Pellerin and Ashley Allard earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.
The first period opened with UConn (12-3-1) grabbing a 1-0 lead thanks to Christina Walker's even-strength goal at 14:22, assisted by True Thompson and Maya Serdachny. Yale (8-6-0) responded at 11:06 when Jordan Ray scored, leveling the score with help from Carina DiAntonio and Hannah Weyerhaeuser.
The two teams played a scoreless second to set-up the thrilling third. Midway through the period, Julia Pellerin hit the pipe, narrowly missing an opportunity to break the deadlock. Late in the period, Yale was unable to capitalize on a power play following a slashing penalty against Pellerin, as the Huskies' defense effectively blocked multiple shots to maintain the scoreless tie heading into the third.
UConn grabed a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal by Kyla Josifovic at 13:12, assisted by Claire Murdoch. However, Yale responded with a tying goal from Hannah Weyerhaeuser at 10:57, leveling the score at 2-2.
In a tense final stretch, the Huskies regained the lead at 1:35 when Pellerin scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Emma Eryou. Yale pulled their goalie in the last minute, but UConn's defense and Tia Chan's goaltending secured a 3-2 victory.
Chan made 46 saves, providing a strong performance in net.
Yale held a 48-42 edge on the shot chart.
The Huskies are next in action on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. ET at Toscano Family Ice Forum against Boston University in Hockey East action.
