STORRS, Conn. – The top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (8-0, 1-0 BIG EAST) returns to Gampel Pavilion to host DePaul (2-7, 0-1) Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will air on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).
Before Sunday's game vs. DePaul, UConn will retire No. 10 in honor of Sue Bird. Bird entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in October, making her eligible to have her number retired at UConn.
The number retirement ceremony will take place approximately 30 minutes before tipoff. The ceremony will stream on the UConn women's basketball X and Facebook pages and the UConn Huskies YouTube page.
Bird won two NCAA Championships, four WNBA Championships and five Olympic gold medals across her basketball career. She is the third player in program history to have her number retired, joining Rebecca Lobo (50) and Swin Cash (32).
Sophomore Sarah Strong had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead UConn to an 85-51 win at South Florida on Tuesday. Freshman Blanca Quiñonez scored 13 points off the bench while graduate student Azzi Fudd and junior Ashlynn Shade each had 10. UConn had 20+ assists for the seventh straight game. The Huskies had 41 bench points vs. the Bulls.
UConn is 26-1 all-time vs. DePaul, including 26-0 under head coach Geno Auriemma. Fudd scored 17 points in the teams' last meeting in Chicago on Jan. 29, 2025.
DePaul lost its BIG EAST opener, 85-54, to Marquette on Thursday. This season, Kate Novik leads the Blue Demons with 13.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Head coach Jill M. Pizzotti is in her first season at DePaul.
