No. 12 Huskies Top No. 13 St. Cloud State

STORRS, Conn. No. 12 UConn women's hockey team defeated No. 13 St. Cloud State, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. The Huskies scored both of their goals on the power play, earning a series split with St. Cloud, giving UConn a 1-1 record this season.Â
Grad student goaltender Tia Chan was sensational in between the pipes for the Huskies, making a season high 36 saves in the win.Â
For the second straight game, UConn opened the scoring in the first period as senior forward Brooke Campbell scored her first goal of the season just 13 seconds into the power play, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.Â
UConn took the one goal advantage into the first intermission with shots favoring St. Cloud 15-8.Â
St. Cloud tied the game at one with a penalty shot due to a delay of game penalty on UConn just three minutes into the second period.Â
UConn answered right back in the second period once again capitalizing on a St. Cloud penalty. Junior forward Livvy Dewar recorded her first goal of the season, putting the Huskies ahead for good, 2-1. This is Dewar's first career game-winning goal.Â
The Huskies maintained their 2-1 lead through consistent defensive efforts, blocking several shots, and holding off St. Cloud's attempts to equalize for the remainder of the period. Shots were even at 11 a-piece in the second period.Â
UConn's defense held strong in the third period, holding the potent St. Cloud offense at bay. UConn's Chanwas instrumental, making several key saves in the final minutes of the game, helping the Huskies salvage a series split with St. Cloud.Â
