Potter, Hense Earn BIG EAST Weekly Awards

STORRS, Conn.- Sophomore Maresa Hense and Freshman Marshall Potter have respectively been named BIG EAST Women's and Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Hense set a new program record in the pentathlon at the Penn Elite meet this weekend, winning the event with 4,201 points. The sophomore from Germany recorded top-three finishes in four of five events, including third-place finishes in the shot put (11.27m) and long jump (5.97m) and a personal best high jump performance of 1.69m to garner second. Hense secured the event victory in the final event, winning the 800m run with a time of 2:11.00. Hense now ranks third in the country in the pentathlon.
Potter collects his second conference award of the season after strong performances in Philly this weekend. The freshman standout won the shot put competition on his last throw, with a personal-best mark of 17.99m, tying the second-best mark in program history. Potter now ranks first in the conference in shot put and 44th in the nation. Potter also finished fifth in the weight throw at 17.86m.
UConn track and field returns to action this weekend at the Terrier Classic in Boston and Harvard Invitational in Cambridge.
