Huskies Head to Lowcountry Classic This Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (0-4) will travel to Charleston, South Carolina this weekend for the Lowcountry Classic. The Huskies will begin the weekend on Friday, February 13 with a pair of matchups starting at 12:30pm against Akron. UConn will play Akron twice, along with the host schools, Charleston Southern, and College of Charleston. The Huskies will close out the weekend against Western Carolina on Sunday, February 15 at 10:00am.
UConn is coming off their opening weekend slate at the JoAnne Graf Classic, where the Huskies went 0-4 to begin the 2026 season. Senior utility Haley Coupal has had a strong start to her 2026 campaign, recording multiple multi-hit games for the Huskies. Freshman infielder Ava Calciano is also off to a strong start this season, posting a .500 batting average through just her first three collegiate games.
Scouting the Field:
Akron (0-5): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Akron Zips opened 2026 with a tough slate, playing three of their first five matchups against Top 25 opponents in Virginia, and Arkansas twice. The Zips are coached by Craig Nicholson entering his third season. This season, Akron has been led by freshman McKayla McGee. UConn won the only ever matchup between these two programs back in 2011, 9-4. The Huskies will open the weekend against the Zips on Friday, February 13 beginning at 12:30pm. UConn will meet Akron again on Saturday, February 14 at 10:00am.
Charleston Southern (1-5): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Charleston Southern Buccaneers began the 2026 season at the Charleston Invitational, going 1-5 on the weekend. The Buccaneers are coached by Christi Musser entering her sixth season. This season, Charleston Southern has been led by junior outfielder Blakley Kingsmore. This will be the first ever meeting between the Huskies and Buccaneers. UConn is set to play Charleston Southern on Friday, February 13 at 5:30pm. Watch on ESPN+.
College of Charleston (4-1): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The College of Charleston Cougars kicked off the 2026 season at the Charleston Invitational, going 4-1 on the weekend. The Cougars are coached by Maggie Mrowka entering her first season as head coach, previously serving as an assistant coach with the program since 2023. College of Charleston has been led by sophomore infielder Hailey Seymour. UConn is 1-2 all-time against the Cougars, with the lone win coming in 2022 (Feb. 25). The Huskies will face the College of Charleston on Saturday, February 14 at 3:00pm. Watch on FloCollege.
Western Carolina (2-0): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Western Carolina Catamounts are off to a 2-0 start in 2026 after sweeping a doubleheader against North Carolina A&T. The Catamounts are coached by Jim Clift entering his 15th season. This season, Western Carolina has been led by junior infielder Lily Bell. UConn is 2-0 all-time against the Catamounts, with both wins coming back in 2022 (Feb. 25 & 26).
