Huskies to Compete in Gulf Coast Classic This Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (2-7) will head to Fort Myers, Florida this weekend for the Hampton Inn Gulf Coast Classic. The Huskies will begin the weekend on Friday, February 20 with two matchups starting at 10:00am against Wisconsin. UConn will play Wisconsin twice, Buffalo, Louisville, and the host school Florida Gulf Coast.
UConn enters the weekend at 2-7 overall this season. The Huskies went 2-3 at the Lowcountry Classic last weekend. This season, UConn has been led by senior infielder Savannah Ring at the plate. Ring leads the Huskies in batting average (.407), hits (11), and on-base percentage (.444). So far this season, UConn is hitting .280 collectively.
In the circle, UConn has been led by grad Jessica Walter and freshman Caprice Bohmer. The duo has combined for 41 of UConn's 45 strikeouts this season. Bohmer was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week while Walter earned BIG EAST Honor Roll for their performances at the Lowcountry Classic.

Wisconsin (7-2): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Wisconsin Badgers enter the weekend winners in four of their last five games. The Badgers are coached by Yvette Healy entering her 16th season. This season, Wisconsin has been led by sophomore utility Kendra Lewis. UConn is 0-4 all-time against the Badgers. The Huskies will open the weekend against Wisconsin on Friday, February 20 beginning at 10:00am. UConn will face the Badgers again in the weekend finale on Sunday, February 22 at 11:30am.
Buffalo (2-8): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Buffalo Bulls come into the weekend on a seven-game skid. The Bulls are coached by Chelsea Plimpton entering her first season as head coach. This season, Buffalo has been led by sophomore outfielder Emily Gorman. UConn is 2-0 all-time against the Bulls. The Huskies will play Buffalo on Friday, February 20 at 12:15pm.
Louisville (7-3): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Louisville Cardinals have won three straight games coming into the weekend. The Cardinals are coached by Holly Aprile entering her 8th season. This season, Louisville has been led by senior Bri Despines. UConn is 5-16 all-time against the Cardinals. UConn will face Louisville on Saturday, February 21 at 2:30pm.
Florida Gulf Coast (5-5): 2025 Schedule | 2025 Roster
The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles enter the weekend winners in two of their last three games. The Eagles are coached by Lindsay Fico entering her first season. This season, Florida Gulf Coast has been led by graduate outfielder Olivia Black. The Huskies are 1-9 all-time against the Eagles. UConn will play Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, February 21 at 7:00pm.
